TROUBLE LOOMS IN OFFOT UKWA CLAN

…. As interim chairman, Mr. Anietie Esu gives out forms to youths without accountability and smuggle them in to stand election without proper screening

It is often said that Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful. It is true that integrity alone won’t make you a leader, but without integrity you will never be one. Integrity is making sure that the things you say and the things you do are in alignment.

Offot Ukwa is the biggest clan in Uyo Local Government Area. It is made up of 22 villages divided into three zones; Offot West, Offot Central & Offot East.

On Saturday 19th December, 2020, Mr. Anietie Esu made an update that the Offot Ukwa Election scheduled to hold on the same date could not hold due to the inability to observe covid-19 guidelines. The truth is, the election was suspended because of gross misconduct.

A caretaker committee made up of six members including Mr. Anietie Esu as the Chairman were in position to conduct a free and fair election to produce a Youth president for Offot Ukwa Clan. But because of reasons best known to Mr. Esu, he decided not to carry the the other five along. He was virtually in charge of everything, performing duties that were meant for other members of the committee without properly intimating them about it. It was a surprise to the committee to learn at the election venue that over 59 persons purchased forms for different positions.

On the election day, it was discovered that Mr. Esu was biased with his personal interest to install a president of his choice. He randomly gave out forms without proper accountability to people who did not have any positive interest for the affairs of the clan and smuggled them in to stand election without proper screening. His aims were to canvass votes for his choice of presidency.

The candidates were shocked when they saw Elder Jackson who was part of the screening committee as an aspirant on the election day.

The youths were angry and disappointed. The whole process was flawed, the youths yelled out for fairness. The Paramount ruler of Uyo who witnessed the whole drama had to suspend the election until the issues were duely sorrted out.

*Let it be known that Mr. Esu is not protecting the interest of the masses!

*He is biased and incapable of conducting a free and fair election!

-He has created disunity in offot Ukwa Clan!

-He has destroyed the peaceful co-existence of brothers in offot Ukwa Clan!

-He has traded his intergrity for personal gains!

–We hereby call on all good citizens of offot Ukwa Clan who witnessed this chaos to lend their voices to justice!

-We call on all the councilors in Offot Ukwa Clan to carry out proper investigation on this issue!

-We call on the Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo to look into these impending crisis!

-We call on our father, The Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, Edidem Sylvanus Okon to please restore peace in Offot Ukwa by dissolving the current caretaker committee and setting up another one with a neutral person who does not have any personal interest!
