TEACHERS RECRUITMENT: NO PREFERENCE FOR 5000 EARLIER SHORTLISTED APPLICANTS – AKSG
The forthcoming recruitment exercise for teachers in Akwa Ibom state, is completely a new process, and as such there is no automatic slot for those in the previously canceled process.
The Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board,SSEB, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon, in a radio chat, said the process which led to the recruitment of 5000 applicants was flawed, and as such their recruitment terminated before they were given another opportunity in three years ago to re-present themselves for interviews.
She said those who scaled through that interview were since employed and posted to teach, and warned that the current employment scheme will have no preference for those in the earlier cancelled recruitment process.
On the sole reliance on online applications, the former lawmaker explained that “candidates applying for admissions into universities and those writing other categories of examinations, all go to business centers and buy scratch cards to apply and to check their results, it is the new normal.
“Those seeking to teach should also embrace what is called the new normal which is the Information Technology.”
Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon furthered that the registration portal would be opened on the 18th of January, 2021 and as such people should get ready to apply once the portal is ready.

Responding to concerns over the quality of the registration website, the former lawmaker warned that, “the recruitment site is not somebody’s blog, but that of the State Secondary Education Board properly scrutinized by the committee setup in Exco and had the review of the Honourable Comissioner for Information, the Head of the Civil Service and members of the State Secondary Education Board”
She further said the emphasis on learning History and Ibibio language in its secondary schools, smacks the essence of young people being acquainted with their heritage and origin.
“A nation that does not teach her children their history and mother tongue, is doomed.”
“2021, the Governor says is the year for education.
“On Friday, we had a meeting, a courtesy call on the Secretary to the State Government, with the SSA on SDG’s and SA on Interministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee as the first line discussed.
“The Governor had said all schools in Uyo will be fenced round during the first quarter of this year, it is my duty is to supply the names of the schools to ensure that the job is done.
“I am looking forward to complete rehabilitation and renovations of the classrooms, laboratory and ICT centres”.
She said re-orientation for the students is of great essence, as this could only be done through concerted efforts of the Government, Parents, Teachers and the Students.
She particularly charged parents to take the duty of admonishing their children seriously, to ensure they don’t become a menace to the society.
